WHAT IS ALLEN/LIMA LEADERSHIP?

Allen/Lima Leadership (ALL) is a county wide leadership program designed to develop new leaders for our community. The purpose of ALL is to be a catalyst to promote positive change in Allen/Lima communities, by providing an education which will improve understanding of community issues, institutions, self and others and train individuals in advanced leadership principles.

The program is divided into ten monthly sessions. Each session includes studying community issues as well as specific leadership training.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

    works

  • develop your potential to understand and
    accept civic responsibilities and leadership
    roles

  • exchange dialogue with current civic and
    business leaders

  • have the opportunity to meet and
    exchange ideas with other participants in
    a diverse, non-partisan environment

  • acquire leadership skills such as coalition
    building, communication skills and
    visioning

  • become more involved in key decision-
    making positions throughout Lima/Allen
    County

 

Program Elements

The curriculum consists of a two day orientation program and nine monthly day long sessions. The orientation is a two day session scheduled for September and attendance is mandatory. These sessions will open dialogue on leadership and help to establish a bond among the class participants.

There will be nine monthly day-long sessions focusing on community issues and opportunities facing Lima/Allen County such as:

Health & Social Services
Education
Criminal Justice & Public Safety
Government
Cultural & Ethnic Diversity
Labor/Management
Agriculture & Environment
Economic Development & Business
Media

The monthly sessions will be designed to place emphasis on experiential learning of leadership skills such as:

Trusteeship
Team Building
Facilitation
Time Management
Conflict Management
Goal Achievement
Communication Skills
Problem Solving

Participants are required to attend each session - only one excused absence will be allowed. Participants who fail to fulfill their attendance obligations will be asked to withdraw from the program.

 

Selection Criteria

Candidates for ALL will complete an application form.

ALL seeks 30 individuals:

  • who have demonstrated a sincere
    commitment, motivation, and interest to
    serve the Lima/Allen County community.

  • with the ability to set and attain goals as
    demonstrated by significant career and/or
    personal achievement

  • with the commitment to remain in the
    Lima/Allen County area, or who are not
    likely to be transferred within the immediate
    future.

  • with the availability of time to participate in
    the ALL program and the full support of the
    corporation or organization he/she
    represents.

  • who represent a cross-section of
    participants from business, the professions,
    education, organized labor, government, the
    arts, clergy, service and community
    organizations, ethnic/ minority groups, and
    by gender and geographical con-sideration.

The diversity of class members is important for the success of the program. The Selection Committee will base their decisions on the above criteria.
